David Fuchs’ journey to the West Coast Conference is anything but ordinary. Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, the physically mature forward has blended European professional experience with steady collegiate growth to emerge as a key contributor for the San Francisco Dons in the West Coast Conference.

Fuchs arrived in the United States with a résumé already shaped by high-level competition overseas. Before college, he logged meaningful minutes in Germany’s professional system with Ratiopharm Ulm and its development program, OrangeAcademy. That foundation—built on physicality, rebounding instincts, and efficient interior scoring—has translated seamlessly to the college game.

European Roots, Pro Experience

Fuchs played 24 games for Ratiopharm Ulm during the 2022–23 season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting an efficient 53.3 percent from the field. More prominently, his two seasons with OrangeAcademy showcased his development arc. After averaging 9.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in his first year, Fuchs surged to 16.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in his second season across 36 appearances—evidence of rapid growth against professional competition.

Making His Mark at Rhode Island

Despite that experience, Fuchs entered college basketball as a true freshman with the Rhode Island Rams, quickly proving he could impact games at the Division I level.

2023–24 (Freshman Season)
Fuchs appeared in 27 games, starting 25, and averaged 7.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He led the Rams with 174 total rebounds and recorded seven games with double-digit boards. His breakout moment came on February 21, 2024, when he erupted for a career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds against Richmond, adding two assists, two blocks, and two steals. That all-around performance earned him Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors on February 26, 2024.
Across the season, he posted six double-doubles, including a three-game streak from December 30 through January 9, and recorded his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in a season-opening win over Fairfield.

2024–25 (Sophomore Season)
As a sophomore, Fuchs solidified his reputation as one of the league’s most consistent rebounders. He played in 29 games, averaging 7.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest while leading the Rams with 218 total rebounds. He reached double figures on the glass 10 times and produced three double-doubles, including a 14-point, 11-rebound effort against Dayton and a 10-point, 12-rebound performance versus Central Connecticut State.
His impact extended beyond the box score, highlighted by multiple games with two or more assists, blocks, or steals—underscoring his defensive awareness and motor.

A New Chapter with San Francisco

Now with San Francisco, Fuchs brings that battle-tested background to a Dons program competing in one of the nation’s most physical mid-major conferences. His game is defined by toughness, positioning, and timing—traits honed in European pro systems and sharpened through two demanding seasons of Atlantic 10 play.

Offensively, Fuchs scores efficiently around the rim, finishes through contact, and punishes switches in the post. Defensively, he anchors possessions with disciplined box-outs, quick second jumps, and the ability to guard multiple frontcourt roles. His rebounding reliability—over seven boards per game across two collegiate seasons—has become a calling card.

The Big Picture

At just 21 years old, David Fuchs represents the modern international pathway to high-level college basketball: professional experience abroad, immediate impact in the NCAA, and steady year-over-year growth. As the WCC race tightens and San Francisco eyes postseason positioning, Fuchs’ interior presence, maturity, and consistency give the Dons a dependable force in the paint—one shaped in Vienna, refined in Germany, and now thriving on the West Coast.
