The 2025 NBA season has come to a close, and Shaedon Sharpe has firmly established himself as one of the league’s most exciting young stars. With elite athleticism, a 49-inch vertical leap, and a knack for highlight plays, the 22-year-old guard has shown Portland Trail Blazers fans that he’s a cornerstone for the franchise’s future.

From London, Ontario to U.S. Prep Stardom
Born May 30, 2003, in London, Ontario, Sharpe began his basketball journey at H.B. Beal Secondary School, where he led his team to an OFSAA AAA appearance. His talent soon took him to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas and later to Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona, where he played under head coach Kyle Weaver.

At Dream City Christian, Sharpe became a featured scorer and proved himself against elite competition on the Grind Session circuit. He matched up with future NBA players including:
- Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic)
- Mouhamed Gueye (Atlanta Hawks)
- Adem Bona (Philadelphia 76ers)
- TyTy Washington (Los Angeles Clippers)
Those battles, along with guidance from Weaver and mentors like Dwayne Washington of UPLAY Canada, helped transform Sharpe from an unranked recruit into the consensus No. 1 player in the 2022 class within just a year.
Kentucky Commitment — No College Games Played
Sharpe committed to Kentucky in September 2021, becoming the Wildcats’ first top-ranked recruit in nearly a decade. He graduated early with plans to redshirt, but in April 2022, he declared for the NBA Draft without ever playing a college game.
Portland Trail Blazers Career
The Portland Trail Blazers selected Sharpe 7th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. After a shoulder injury cut his Summer League short, he debuted on October 19, 2022, scoring 12 points in a win over Sacramento.
By the end of the 2025 season, Sharpe’s two-plus years in Portland include:
- Career Averages: 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists in 27.2 minutes per game
- 2025 Season: 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists — all career highs
- Youngest player in franchise history to reach 1,000 career points
- 20+ points in 18 games during 2025
- Selected to the NBA Rising Stars in 2024 and 2025
Sharpe’s combination of explosive athleticism and developing perimeter game has made him one of the most watchable young guards in the league.
International Success with Canada
In 2019, Sharpe represented Team Canada at the FIBA U16 Americas Championship in Brazil, averaging 13.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while helping Canada win a silver medal. One of his teammates on that squad was Leonard Miller, now a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, adding another layer to Canada’s growing influence in the NBA.
Looking Ahead
With the 2025 season in the books, Sharpe enters the offseason healthy and poised for a breakout year. His rapid climb from Canadian prep gyms to NBA stardom — facing top-tier talent along the way — has been nothing short of remarkable.
If The Abnormality continues to build on his scoring, playmaking, and defensive consistency, the Portland Trail Blazers may have found their next franchise cornerstone.
